Pre-Analyze checklist that prevents empty results
Empty Analyze results are often preventable. Before you press the button, confirm the paste is a single public watch URL, free of chat junk, and able to play while signed out. That gate costs seconds and protects patience—and on free use, it protects the daily download slots you would rather spend on a file that actually arrives.
Treat this page as a stop-gate in front of Vidzilla’s tools. It does not download anything. It stops doomed pastes from reaching Analyze so you are not debugging the wrong problem after the list comes back blank.
Open the video downloader when the checklist passes
Item 1: the string is actually a URL
Look at the leftmost characters in the paste field or clipboard. You need https://, or occasionally http:// on older hosts. If the field starts with “Watch this”, a username mention, emoji, or bare prose, delete everything that is not the address. Chat apps love wrapping links in sentences; downloaders do not.
Internal schemes such as file://, content://, or app-specific deep links without a web host are not watch pages. Vidzilla expects a normal web URL that a browser can open. If your clipboard holds only an opaque id with no host, go back to Share → Copy link on the player and try again.
Item 2: the URL names one video
Ask whether the path points at a single recording. Watch pages, status posts with native video, and short-form item pages usually do. Homepages, tag pages, channel roots, playlist indexes, and search URLs usually do not. Collection pages are for browsing; Analyze is built for one target.
If you are unsure, open the link in a private window. You should land on a player for one title—not a grid of many uploads. When you see a grid, click into the clip you want and recopy. A quick mental test: if refreshing the page can swap which video is “featured,” you still have a hub, not a watch URL.

Item 3: the page is public without your login
Extractors see what a signed-out visitor sees. If the video only plays because you are logged into the app or the site, Analyze will often return no formats even though your everyday browser plays it fine. That mismatch feels like a broken tool; it is usually an access problem.
Quick test: paste the URL into a private or incognito window, or another browser profile with no cookies for that site. If you hit a login wall, an age gate that never resolves, a “follow to view” prompt, or “content unavailable,” fix access or pick another source before using Vidzilla. Do not burn Analyze retries on a page the public cannot open.
Item 4: strip accidental extras, keep required ids
Remove trailing punctuation from chats (“…”, “).”, “]”). Remove leading labels. Keep query parameters that identify the video—many hosts rely on a v= style id or a path slug. Tracking parameters such as utm_source are often harmless; strip them only when you know they are analytics-only and the trimmed URL still plays signed out.
Do not delete path segments that look random. Those are frequently the video id. When in doubt, prefer the unmodified share link that still plays in the private window over a hand-edited “cleaner” version that no longer resolves.
Shorteners and QR landings
If the clipboard holds a third-party shortener, open it once, wait for the final watch page, and copy from the address bar before you run the rest of the checklist. QR codes that land on marketing pages need a second tap into the actual player before the URL is checklist-ready.
Item 5: know free quota before you commit
Free use on Vidzilla includes a daily download count—three per day as shown on the tool—and a per-file size ceiling. An empty Analyze is not the same as a completed download, but confused retries still cost time and set you up to waste a slot the moment rows finally appear.
If you already know you need a very large file, plan to read size figures after Analyze and pick a row under the free ceiling—or use a higher tier—before hammering Download file on an oversized row. The checklist’s job is to make that first successful Analyze count.
Only then press Analyze
When every item passes, paste into the tool and Analyze once. Wait for the list. If it is empty, do not immediately burn retries on the same string—revisit public access and URL shape first. Change one variable, then try again.
When rows appear, choose height and size deliberately, download with the tab open, and confirm the file on disk. The checklist ends when Analyze returns usable rows; confirmation of the saved file is a separate discipline after Download file.
What this checklist cannot fix
Deleted posts, broken CDN origins, geo blocks enforced at the host, DRM storefronts, and live streams without a finalized file will fail even with a perfect paste. The checklist reduces user-side mistakes; it does not override publisher restrictions or invent support for unsupported page templates.
Always follow copyright and platform terms. The free paste-and-download path is for content you are allowed to keep offline.
