A coub is a short clip played against a chosen soundtrack

The format is built from two pieces. Somebody takes a few seconds of video, then puts a piece of music or another audio track underneath it, and the picture repeats while the sound runs on. What you watch on the site is those two pieces played together in a player that restarts the picture each time it ends.

The site stores them the way it plays them, which is why this page behaves differently from a page about an ordinary upload. The picture and the sound are two published files, and the results list reflects that.

Why the results list can show two rows for one coub

Analyze reports the files the page is genuinely serving. When the picture and the soundtrack are published separately, you get a video row and an audio row, each with its own size in megabytes. Neither row is a lesser copy of the other. One carries the moving image, the other carries the sound.

Choose according to what you want to end up with. Take the video row for the visual, take the audio row when the music is the point, or take both and put them together in an editor afterwards. This page hands over the files as published and performs no merging.

Very small files, and what that does to the daily allowance

A coub runs for seconds rather than minutes, so the picture file is normally a few megabytes and the audio file smaller again. Nothing here comes close to the 150 MB ceiling on free use, and neither file will trouble the storage on a phone.

The limit you will meet first is the count. Free use allows three downloads a day, and a coub that gives you a video row and an audio row uses two of them if you take both. Pro removes the daily limit and the ads. Prepared files sit on a short timer, so save each one as it becomes ready instead of collecting several tabs.

How a loop behaves once it is a plain file on your disk

The repeating is done by the player on the site, not by the file. The saved video is one pass of the clip, a few seconds long, and your media player runs it once and stops. That surprises people who expected the file itself to loop.

Set your player to repeat if you want the loop back, or set the loop attribute when you place the file on a page of your own. The saved clip also has no soundtrack baked into it when the site published the two parts separately, so a silent playback is the file behaving correctly rather than a failed download.

Copy the address of a single coub

Open the coub so it fills the page on its own and copy the address from your browser bar. A usable address ends in the short identifier for that one item. On a phone, use the share control on the coub and choose the option that copies a link, then paste it into the box above.

A channel, a category listing, the featured feed, or a search page holds many items and no single file, so those addresses return nothing. Coubs that the site has removed, and coubs from an account that has been closed, also return nothing, and an empty result there is the correct answer.

The music is somebody else's work

Two people usually have a claim on one coub: whoever shot or clipped the picture, and whoever recorded the audio. Saving a copy for yourself is one thing. Publishing it, putting it over your own video, or using it in something commercial reaches past what the page gives you.
