Public, private and professional accounts on Instagram

Every Instagram paste is answered by an account

Instagram does not serve one page to everybody. It decides what a visitor receives by looking at who is asking and at the settings of the account that published the post. That decision is made before any video file is named.

Vidzilla asks for the post as a signed-out visitor. The account settings therefore govern the whole job. Two posts that look identical in your feed can return a full results list and an empty one, and the difference sits in the profile rather than in the clip.

A public account answers a stranger

A public account publishes its posts to anyone who has the address, signed in or not. Open one in a browser where you have never logged in and the clip plays. That is the same reception our servers get, so Analyze returns the video files the post is serving and you pick a row.

Nothing about a public post changes because you happen to follow the account. Following affects what reaches your feed. It does not affect what the address hands to a reader who arrives cold.

A private account answers only approved followers

Switching an account to private tells Instagram to serve its posts to approved followers who are signed in. Everyone else receives a short profile page carrying a note that the account is private, and no video is attached to it.

You being an approved follower makes no difference here, because the request comes from our servers rather than from your browser session. An empty results list on a private post is the accurate answer, and no address you copy from inside the app will change it.

Professional accounts that restrict where the clip plays

Business and creator accounts carry settings a personal account does not, and one of them governs embedding. When an account turns off sharing to other sites, the post keeps working inside Instagram and stops working in the routes other readers use.

The post remains public. The account has narrowed who may play the file rather than who may see the page, so a results list can come back short or empty on a post that is plainly visible when you open it yourself.

Telling the three apart in a few seconds

You can settle this before you copy anything. Open the profile and read what is on it, then open the post itself in a browser window where you are not signed in.

The answer you get in that window is the answer Vidzilla gets.

• A padlock and the words This account is private on the profile: the post will return nothing.
• A category label such as Digital creator under the name: a professional account, and embedding may be off.
• Posts and follower counts visible with no padlock: an ordinary public account.
• The clip plays in a private browsing window: the post is readable from outside.

What free use covers once the account allows it

Instagram video is short, and the files are small. Free use gives you 3 downloads a day, and that count returns to three at midnight UTC. A single file has to stay under 150 MB, which a feed clip does not approach. A Pro account has no daily count, no size ceiling and no advertising on the page.

The account holder keeps the rights

Being able to read a post is not the same as being entitled to reuse it. The person who published the video owns it, and a public setting is a decision about visibility rather than a licence. Vidzilla has no relationship with Instagram and cannot grant permission on anyone's behalf.
