Convert JPG images to PNG

Make a PNG working copy from a JPEG when the next tool wants lossless saves during editing.

What conversion can and cannot restore

JPG already discarded some picture information when it was saved. Converting to PNG does not bring those lost details back. It stops further JPG recompression while you edit and re-export through several rounds.

Use PNG when you will crop, mask, composite, or save several times. Use JPG again when you are done and only need a small shareable photo for a chat or listing thumbnail.

Thinking of PNG as a magic sharpener leads to disappointment. Thinking of it as a safer intermediate file matches what the format actually does.

How the page runs

Drop the JPG, choose PNG output in the converter this page opens, start the job, keep the tab open, and download the PNG when it is ready.

Uploads are deleted after conversion completes on the normal path. Batch a folder when an entire shoot must enter an editor as PNG.

Extremely large camera originals take longer and produce large PNG outputs. Resize first when you only need web working size.

Editors, compositing, and transparency

Many design tools treat PNG as a safer intermediate. Hard-edged graphics that started life as JPG still benefit from PNG during markup even though the source was photographic.

A normal photo JPG has no alpha channel. Converting to PNG does not invent transparency. Run a background remover afterward if you need a cutout.

Keep the original JPG when you need the smaller archive. Keep the PNG beside it as the working copy for edits.

File size expectations

PNG working copies are often larger than the JPG you started from because PNG is not chasing the same compression goals. That size increase is normal.

If storage is tight, convert only the images you will edit this week rather than an entire catalog at once.

After editing, export final delivery images as JPG or WEBP when the destination asks for smaller files.

Color, metadata, and print

Casual web JPGs are usually sRGB. PNG inherits that working space for typical browser conversions. Specialized print pipelines may still need a color-managed editor.

EXIF metadata may be stripped or reduced depending on the conversion path. Keep originals when camera settings must remain attached for legal or journalistic archives.

Do not assume a PNG is automatically better for print; printers care about resolution and color management more than the container name alone.

When to choose a different conversion

Choose WEBP when the destination is a performance-sensitive website and transparency is optional or supported.

Choose JPG when you only need to shrink a photo for email and will not edit further.

Choose a background remover when the real job is cutout, not format change.

Practical checklist before you close the tab

Confirm you pasted a single-item public URL, not a channel grid, playlist index, search page, or a homepage that only embeds media somewhere in the layout.

Read the megabyte figure on the row you intend to take. Free use blocks files over 150 MB and allows three completed downloads per day resetting at midnight UTC. Pro lifts those caps and clears ads on the download path.

After Download finishes, open the file offline. Rename it into a project folder. Prepared server copies expire; the lasting archive is the file on your device.

Leave the tab open until the browser marks the transfer complete, confirm playback offline, and treat an empty Analyze list as a cue to fix the URL or accept a private page rather than pasting the same locked address repeatedly. Free use allows three completed downloads per day resetting at midnight UTC, blocks single files over one hundred fifty megabytes, and spends a slot only when a Download file finishes writing to your device.

JPG to PNG questions

Will JPG to PNG make a blurry photo sharp?

No. Detail already discarded by JPG compression does not return. PNG prevents further JPG loss during edits.

Does the PNG include transparency automatically?

No. A standard photo JPG has no alpha. Add a cutout in a remover tool if you need transparency.

Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?

PNG is a different compression approach and often stores more. Larger working files are expected.

Are uploads kept on the server?

On the normal path they are removed after conversion. Download your PNG promptly.

Should I convert an entire photo library to PNG?

Usually no. Convert images you will edit. Keep JPG or a true raw archive for bulk storage.

Can I go back from PNG to JPG later?

Yes, with a PNG to JPG tool when you need a smaller delivery file after editing.
