Instagram packs video into at least three public containers you will meet in the address bar: Reels, single feed posts, and multi-item carousels. Each container uses a recognizable path pattern, and each one changes what a single paste can honestly return.

Copy while the Reel is open. Profile Reels tabs and Explore mosaics without a /reel/ code are collection views. They are the wrong unit for a one-paste download.
If the share sheet offers a link that still contains /reel/ and the code you see in the player, prefer that string over rewriting it into a feed-style path from memory. Hand-edited paths are a frequent source of empty lists.
Feed post paths with /p/
Classic feed posts use /p/ and a code. The post might be a still photo, a single video, or the door into a carousel. The path alone does not always announce which; open the post and look at the media chrome.
A lone video feed post behaves like a one-item job. A photo-only post will not invent video rows. Paste the post URL you actually opened rather than a truncated share preview.
Desktop and mobile sometimes shorten what you see in a preview card. Always open the post fully so /p/ and the code are present before you copy. Truncated previews that drop the code cannot be repaired by Analyze.
Carousels: one post, several slides
Carousels reuse the feed-style /p/ shape. Dots under the media tell you multiple slides exist. Slides can mix photos and videos. Analyze reports video encodes tied to that post; still slides do not become fake video rows.
Some desktop swipes append a query hint about the visible slide. That hint does not usually narrow results to one slide by itself—the post code still names the whole container. Read the result groups carefully when more than one clip is present.
When you only need one video slide from a mixed carousel, identify it after Analyze by inspecting the listed groups rather than assuming the query alone selected it. Photo slides simply will not appear as video formats.
Why the paste differences matter in practice
People often grab a profile URL, a Story sticker link that already expired, or an Explore card and wonder why formats are empty. Others paste a carousel and expect only the third slide without checking which videos the post actually serves.
Matching container to expectation saves retries. Reel → one vertical clip. Feed video → one clip. Carousel → possibly several video items plus ignored photos. Private accounts → nothing signed out.

Private accounts, Stories, and highlights
