Save video from an Instagram highlight

A highlight is old Stories kept on the profile

Stories vanish after about a day. A highlight is how an account keeps some of them. The owner picks Stories that have already run, files them under a title, and the circle appears under their biography where anyone visiting the profile can open it.

So the material inside a highlight is not new. Each item is a Story card that was published at some point in the past and rescued from the clock. That history explains the shape of what you find inside: vertical, short, and made for a phone screen rather than for a feed.

The address names the collection, not one card

Opening a highlight puts an address in the bar that carries the word highlights and a numeric identifier. That identifier belongs to the collection. A highlight titled Travel with eighteen cards in it has one identifier, and the eighteen cards do not have separate identifiers in that address.

That is different from the rest of Instagram, where a Reel address names a Reel and a post address names a post. Here the address names a folder. Analyze reads the page at that address and reports the video files it is serving, which is why what comes back depends on what the collection is actually publishing at the moment you press it.

Reaching the card you actually want

Highlights play as a sequence, one card after another, with the same tap-forward behaviour as Stories. Hold your finger on the screen or hover the pointer to stop the sequence advancing while you work out which card you are on.

Note the position of the card and roughly how long it runs before you paste anything. When the results list holds rows for more than one item, the runtime and the size are how you match a row to the card you watched. A highlight of eighteen short cards produces a longer list than a highlight of two.

• Open the profile and tap the highlight circle you want.
• Pause the sequence on the card you came for.
• Note its position in the run and roughly how long it lasts.
• Copy the address from the bar or the share menu, then paste it here.

Cards that are photographs, and covers that are not video

Highlights mix stills and clips exactly as Stories did, and many accounts fill a highlight mostly with photographs. The results list reports video files, so a photograph card produces no row and a highlight made entirely of stills returns an empty list.

The circular cover image on the profile is a separate matter. It is a thumbnail the owner chose to label the collection, often cropped from one of the cards. It is a picture, so it never appears among the video rows.

Highlights on a profile that approves its followers

A private account serves its highlights to approved followers who are signed in and to nobody else. Vidzilla reads every page as a signed-out visitor, so a highlight on a private profile returns nothing. Your own account status makes no difference, because the page is opened on our servers and not in the browser you are following the account from.

There is a quick way to see what a logged-out viewer receives. Open a private browser window, paste the highlight address, and press Enter. If the cards play with nobody signed in, this site can read the page. A sign-in form means the door is closed.

Sizes, the daily count, and the short timer

Highlight cards are Story-length, so the files are small and sit far under the 150 MB ceiling that applies to a single file on free use. Pulling several cards out of one collection is what uses the allowance, because each saved file counts against the 3 downloads a free account gets in a day, and that count resets at midnight UTC.

Press Download file, keep the tab open until the transfer ends, and start it promptly, because the prepared copy expires on a short timer. The saved card then lives on your own device. Pro removes the daily count, the size ceiling, and the ads.

The account owner decides what happens to their archive

A highlight is somebody deciding which parts of their past they want on display. Your own highlights are yours to keep copies of. Anyone else's remain theirs, and a public profile is not a grant of permission to redistribute what is in it. Vidzilla has no relationship with Instagram and cannot give permission for a creator.
