The avatar is stored as a small square
Instagram takes the photograph somebody uploads as their picture and publishes a square copy at modest dimensions. It has to load beside a name in a feed, in a comment thread and in a list of followers, so it is kept deliberately small.
The larger original stays with the person who uploaded it. What the site serves to a reader is the small square, and that square is the ceiling on anything you can save from a profile.
Instagram serves profile photos at modest pixel sizes. The circular crop you see on the site is layout, not extra resolution in the file. Saving the avatar gives you that published square, not a studio portrait.

The round frame is drawn by the page

An account that has never set a picture shows the grey placeholder Instagram draws for an empty slot. That placeholder is not a photograph, so there is nothing behind it to save.
Both cases produce an empty result, and the empty result is the accurate answer for a profile with no public picture attached.
What a profile address returns in the results
Paste the address of the profile itself, the one holding the account name after the site name. A post address points at a post and will not give you the avatar.
The list that comes back is short, because a profile page carries one picture rather than a ladder of encodings.
