A feed that lives inside a chat app

LINE is a messaging service used heavily in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. VOOM is the feed inside it where accounts post short video and images, and it replaced the older timeline feature that LINE ran for years.

Because the feed grew out of a chat app rather than an open publishing platform, the default assumption is the opposite of a public site. A post starts as something shown to the people the poster already talks to, and reaching a wider audience is a choice the poster makes.

Two audiences, set post by post

When somebody publishes to VOOM, they pick who sees it. One setting makes the post open to anybody, including a visitor who is not signed in and has no LINE account. Another limits it to the accounts in their friend list.

The setting belongs to the individual post rather than the account, so the same person can have one post open to the world and the next one closed to everybody outside their contacts. Nothing in the address tells you which is which, and that is why two addresses of the same shape behave differently here.

What a contacts-only post gives back

Vidzilla reads every page as a signed-out visitor. It carries no LINE account, so it is in nobody's friend list, so a post limited to friends serves it nothing. The results list comes back empty.

That empty list is not something to work around. It is the visibility setting doing the job the poster asked for. Being able to see the post yourself, in the app, on an account that is in their contacts, does not extend that access to a request made from our servers. There is no address adjustment that changes it.

Getting a VOOM address out of the app

The app has no address bar, so the share control is the route. Open the post, use the share option, and choose the item that copies a link. The address goes to your clipboard, and you can then paste it into the box on this page from your browser.

Two things are worth checking after you paste. Some share options wrap the address in a line of text, and those words need deleting so the box holds an address only. And an address copied from the top of a feed names the feed rather than one post, which has no single file behind it.

Official accounts publish differently from people

Businesses, broadcasters and public figures run official accounts on LINE, and those accounts post to VOOM for reach. Their posts are open by intent, because a marketing post limited to existing contacts would defeat its purpose.

So official-account posts are the ones that return rows here most of the time, and personal posts written for a friend list are the ones that return nothing. Neither pattern settles any single post. Open the address in a private browser window, where you carry no session, and the page answers the question directly.

Rows and sizes for a VOOM clip

VOOM posts are short. A clip of under a minute in a vertical frame produces rows of a few megabytes, and each row carries its height and its size in megabytes so you can pick without guessing.

Free use covers 3 downloads a day, resetting at midnight UTC, and refuses any single file over 150 MB. A VOOM clip sits far below that ceiling, so the daily count is the limit that matters. On Pro there is no daily count, no size ceiling and no advertising. Leave the tab open until the transfer finishes, and start it soon after the list appears, because a prepared file expires on a short timer.

Telling the empty results apart

Several situations end with nothing in the list, and it is worth knowing which one you hit.

• The post was published to friends only, so a signed-out reader is served nothing.
• The poster deleted the post, and the address no longer reaches anything.
• The address names an account's feed rather than one post.
• The item was a text post or a photograph, so there is no video file to report.
• The share text was pasted along with the address, leaving something the box cannot read.
