The list mirrors the source

Every row corresponds to a file the page is already serving. Where the source encoded its video as MP4, an MP4 row appears. Where it did not, pressing Analyze again produces the same inventory. The tool does not invent an MP4 that the publisher never offered.

Nothing is converted on the way to your device. That keeps the saved copy identical to what the publisher made, and it is the reason the label on a row is a fact about the source rather than a setting you pick. Sites that promise “always MP4” are re-encoding behind the scenes.

Treat an empty MP4 column as information, not a broken button. The page is telling you the containers that exist. Your next decision is whether one of those containers works for your player, or whether you save first and convert afterward on a converter page.

The containers that turn up instead

Five labels cover almost everything that appears in place of MP4. Each one is a box holding a picture track, a sound track, or both. Knowing the label helps you decide whether to download now or convert later.

• WEBM, common on sites that serve video through the browser, holding VP9 or AV1 picture with Opus sound.
• MKV, a flexible box used by archives and by people keeping originals, able to carry several audio and subtitle tracks at once.
• MOV, Apple's container, produced by cameras and editing software and closely related to MP4 inside.
• M4A, audio on its own with no picture track present.
• TS, fragments of a broadcast stream joined into a single file.

What your device opens without help

WEBM plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and on current Android. MOV plays on Apple hardware and in Windows with the built-in player on recent versions. Those two are the common “download now, watch now” answers when MP4 is missing.

MKV and TS are the two that stop an ordinary media player. VLC opens all five on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, and installing it once is a smaller job than converting every file you save. If you already use VLC, take the largest row your storage allows and open it there.

On iPhone, WEBM and MKV often need a player app or a later conversion to MP4. Plan that step before you spend a free download on a container your phone will not index in the Photos app.

Deciding whether to take a different row

Ask what the file has to do next. For watching on the device that downloaded it, take the largest row your storage allows and open it in a player that reads the label. For sending the file to somebody else, uploading it to a platform, or dropping it into an editor, the container matters more, because the destination sets the rules rather than you.

Editors and many upload forms still prefer MP4. In that case, save the published row, then convert the saved copy on a converter page such as WEBM to MP4 or MKV to MP4. Working in that order keeps the download step a plain copy of the original.

A conversion re-encodes the picture, and re-encoding costs a little detail every time it happens. One conversion from a saved original is a small cost and rarely visible. Converting twice stacks that cost for no benefit.

When only one row exists

Small hosts and direct file addresses often serve a single encoding. One row with one size and one label is the entire inventory of that page. The choice in that case is the file or nothing. The publisher made one version, and that version is what any reader of the page receives.

Do not refresh Analyze hoping an MP4 appears. The inventory will not grow unless the publisher republishes. If the single row is M4A and you wanted picture, look for a different address that holds the video page rather than an audio-only share.

Direct .mp4 links sometimes still show as one row labeled MP4. This page’s job is the opposite case: the link works, the list is real, and MP4 simply is not among the labels.

Converting after the download, not before

Where the destination insists on MP4, save the row the source published, then convert the saved copy. Our converter pages handle the ordinary jumps between containers. That sequence preserves a master that matches the publisher and a second file tailored for the upload form.

Keep both files until you confirm the converted MP4 opens in the target app. Then delete the intermediate if you need the disk space. Do not delete the original until the destination has accepted the MP4.

If the row is already MOV and your Mac tools open it, you may not need a conversion at all. Match the container to the next tool, not to a habit of always wanting MP4.

Free use, whichever row you take

The container makes no difference to the limits. Free use covers three downloads a day, resetting at midnight UTC, and a single file up to 150 megabytes. Pro sets aside the daily count, sets aside the 150 megabyte ceiling, and sets aside the advertising.

Prepared files stand on a short timer, so let the transfer finish in the open tab. Closing early leaves a partial file the same way any interrupted browser download does.

Analyze does not spend a free slot. Completing Download file does. You can inspect an inventory that has no MP4 without paying a download, then decide whether to take WEBM now or come back with Pro for a larger row.
