A GIF button is not always a .gif file

On Twitter / X, the composer’s GIF picker and many shared loops are stored as short muted video files, usually MP4. The timeline still labels them like GIFs. Your Downloads folder may show a video extension even when everyone called the post a GIF.

That difference matters when you open the file later. A true .gif opens in image viewers and some chat apps as an image. An MP4 loop opens in a video player and may need a converter if you need a classic GIF for a board that only accepts that extension.

Copy the post address, not the timeline feed

Open the post that contains the loop until the address bar shows that single status. Copy that address. A home timeline URL or a profile URL is not a single media target and will not give you one clean loop.

Reading the results for a loop

Expect a short duration and a modest megabyte size compared with long tweets that carry full clips with sound. Many GIF-style posts are silent by design. If the timeline had no audio, the file will not invent a soundtrack.

If you need a classic .gif for an editor or a site that rejects MP4, download the loop first, then use Video to GIF or MP4 to GIF on the saved file. Converting before you have a local copy adds an extra failure point when the post later disappears.

Confirm the post matches what you meant. Quote-tweet wrappers and shared links can point at a different media object than the joke you saw scrolling the feed.

When several rows appear, pick the one whose type and size match how you will reuse the loop. A tiny row may look soft on a large monitor; a larger row may be unnecessary for a chat reaction.

Posts with several attachments

A status can hold more than one image or clip. Analyze describes the media your pasted address resolves to. If you get the wrong attachment, open the specific item from the post when the client offers a dedicated view, then copy that address.

Photo attachments are stills. GIF-style attachments are short video loops. Do not expect one Download file press to zip every attachment in the post into a single archive.

Mixed posts that include a photo and a loop need two jobs if you want both files. Plan which attachment matters before you spend free daily downloads on the wrong one.

Alt text and captions on the post do not change the file bytes. They only help you confirm you copied the right status before you press Download file.

Private accounts, withheld media, and removed posts

Protected accounts and withheld media serve a wall to visitors without access. Vidzilla does not use your X login, so Analyze sees that wall and returns nothing. That empty list is accurate for a public fetch.

Deleted posts and media that the author removed leave no file to list. If the post still opens for you while signed in but fails here, the view depends on your session cookies.

Region holds and age gates behave the same way: if an anonymous browser cannot play the media, this tool cannot invent a public file for you.

Reposts of a loop sometimes keep a copy under a different status address. When the original is gone, check whether a repost still hosts the same media and paste that address instead.

Free use, size limits, and Pro

Free use allows three downloads per day with a 150 MB ceiling per file. Short loops usually fit under that ceiling. Longer clips with sound can approach it; read the megabyte figure on the row before you press Download file.

Pro removes the daily count, the size ceiling, and advertising when you save from social posts often. The free count resets at midnight UTC.

Only keep media you have a right to store. Saving for personal reference is not the same as reposting with the credit removed. The file on disk does not change that obligation.

Closing the tab mid-transfer can spend an attempt without leaving a usable file. Stay until the browser marks the download complete, then open the file once to confirm it loops.

After the file lands
