One post, not the account

The address you paste has to be the address of the individual post. Tap or click the post so it opens on its own, with the replies underneath it, then copy the address out of the browser bar. In the phone app, use the share icon at the bottom of the post and choose Copy link.

An account address is a stream of posts rather than one video, so nothing comes back from it. The same goes for a search, a list, or a bookmarks page. If the results are empty, check the address you pasted: a usable one ends with the numeric identifier of a single post.

x.com and twitter.com are the same post

The platform changed its name and kept both addresses working, and an old twitter.com link and a current x.com link with the same post number lead to the same post. Paste whichever one you have. There is no need to edit the domain by hand, and rewriting it does not improve the result.

Shortened t.co links from a forwarded message are followed through to the post behind them. If one of those returns nothing, open it in a browser yourself, wait until the post loads, and copy the address you end up on.

Accounts and posts that stay closed

Two situations account for nearly every empty result on this platform, and neither is repairable from this page.

  • A protected account: the owner has limited their posts to approved followers. Vidzilla reads the post with no account signed in, so it sees the restriction rather than the video. Being an approved follower yourself does not change what our servers are shown.
  • A deleted post: once the post is gone, the video hosted with it is gone. A screenshot of the post or a link from a quote that still shows the text will not bring the file back.
  • A suspended or deactivated account: the posts go with it, which looks the same as a deletion from the outside.
  • An age-restricted or sensitive-media post that demands a signed-in viewer before it will play. The prompt is what gets read instead of the video.

Quoted posts point somewhere else

When someone quotes another post and the video belongs to the post being quoted, the address in your bar is the address of the comment on top, not of the video underneath. Analyze reads the outer post and reports what that post itself is serving.

Open the quoted post by tapping the card embedded inside the outer one. That takes you to the original, which has its own address and its own video. Copy that address and paste it instead. The same applies to a reply that shows a video from further up the thread.

What comes back, and why the files are small

Video in a post is usually short and modest in size, because the platform caps the length of an ordinary upload and re-encodes what is posted. A clip of a minute or two commonly lands in single-digit or low double-digit megabytes, which sits well inside the free size ceiling.

Analyze lists each encoding the post is serving with its resolution and its size, and the tallest row is whatever the platform produced for that upload rather than the resolution the original camera recorded. Choose a row and press Download file. Keep this tab open until the transfer finishes; there is no account, no email address, and no app to install.

Animated GIFs are video files here

What the platform displays as a GIF is not a GIF file. It is a short silent video that loops, stored and served as video, which is why it appears in the results as a video row with a resolution and a size. You get an MP4, not an image.

That surprises people who wanted an image to drop into a chat. If you need an actual animated image, save the video here and convert it afterwards with a converter. The file you receive from this page is the file the post is genuinely serving.

Keep what you have the right to keep

Save your own posts freely. Save someone else's video when they have told you that you may, or when the licence on it permits it. A public post is readable by anyone, and that is not the same as permission to reuse the video in your own work.

Vidzilla is an independent site with no affiliation to X, no partnership, and no power to grant rights over material posted there. The terms you agreed to on that platform still apply to you.

Questions about posts on X

Do I need to convert a twitter.com link to x.com before pasting it?

No. Both addresses resolve to the same post and both are read the same way. Paste the link exactly as you copied it.

Why can I see the video in my timeline but Analyze returns nothing?

You are signed in and our servers are not. A protected account, or a post that demands a signed-in viewer before it plays, shows Vidzilla a prompt instead of the video.

The video is in a quoted post. Which address do I use?

Open the quoted post by tapping the card inside the outer one, then copy the address of that original post. The outer post only serves its own media.

I saved a GIF and got an MP4 file. Is that a mistake?

No. What the platform shows as a GIF is a short silent video file that loops, so a video row is exactly what the post is serving. Convert the MP4 afterwards if you need an animated image.

Can I recover a video from a post that was deleted?

No. The video was hosted with the post, and both are gone. Nothing on this page reaches a file the platform has removed.

Why is the downloaded file smaller than I expected?

The platform re-encodes uploads and caps the length of an ordinary post, so the largest version available is often only a few megabytes. The results list shows the true size of every row before you choose.
