What a YouTube link actually points at

A YouTube link is an address for a watch page. The page serves several encodes at different resolutions and bitrates. Vidzilla lists those encodes as rows with a resolution label and a size in megabytes. You pick one row; that is the file that transfers to your device.

Short links such as youtu.be addresses, mobile links, and full youtube.com watch URLs usually resolve to the same video when the video ID matches. Playlist links and channel links are not a single video. Open the specific video first, then copy the address from the browser bar.

Choosing resolution against the free size ceiling

Higher resolution rows carry more pixels and usually more megabytes. For a phone screen, 720p or 1080p is enough for clear playback. For a large television or an editing timeline, the higher row earns its size when the uploader published it.

If the row you want sits above 150 MB on free use, take a smaller row from the same list or use Pro. The list already contains the honest options the page is serving. No downloader can invent a 4K file when the uploader never published one.

Links that will not produce a file

Live streams that are still in progress may not offer a stable finished file. Wait until the premiere or stream ends and a normal watch page exists, then paste again.

Embedded players on other sites sometimes hide a clean watch URL. Click through to YouTube itself when you can, then copy that address. The watch page is the reliable input.

Where the file lands and how to keep it organized

On a desktop, check the Downloads folder and rename the file with the video title so it remains searchable. On a phone, confirm the file in Files or Photos depending on what the browser offered.

Offline copies are for personal playback and study. They are not a license to reupload the video to another platform. Keep archives private unless you own the rights.

If you need only a short section, download the full file first or trim after with a separate trim tool. This page delivers the encode you selected, not a clip editor inside the Analyze step.

YouTube Music, Shorts, and ordinary watch pages

Shorts links still point at video encodes; paste them the same way. YouTube Music video links that open a watchable video can work when a public watch page exists. Pure audio album pages without a video stream will not return video rows.

Kids profiles and supervised accounts can restrict what plays on a device. If the watch page itself is blocked on your profile, Analyze will not bypass that device policy.

Free use, Pro, and ads

Three downloads per day and 150 MB per file are the free ceilings. Ads may show on free use. Pro removes the count, the size ceiling, and the advertising when your weekly saves exceed those limits.
