Online download versus installing a YouTube app
Many search results for YouTube download point to desktop programs that ask for installers, browser extensions, or codec packs. This page is an online path: you stay in the browser, paste a watch URL, and receive a file through the normal download UI your browser already uses.
Online does not mean the video streams forever from Vidzilla. It means the preparation runs on the service and the finished file is written to your device. After the transfer, playback is local. You do not need this tab open to watch the file later.
Choose the online path when you want a one-off save on a shared computer, a locked-down work laptop, or a phone where you cannot install extra apps. Choose a dedicated offline library workflow only when you own the masters and need bulk archive tools outside this product.
Paste a watch URL, not a channel or search page
Open the YouTube video until the player shows that one title. Copy the address from the bar or from Share. The URL should include a video id. Short links from Share are acceptable when they resolve to that same video.
Channel home pages, subscription feeds, and search result pages are not watch URLs. They list many uploads. Analyze cannot pick one file on your behalf from a grid of thumbnails. Open the video first, then copy.
Live streams that are still in progress do not have a finished on-demand file. Wait until YouTube publishes the archive replay, then paste the watch URL for that archive. Premiere countdowns behave the same way until the premiere unlocks the video.
Choosing quality in the online results list
YouTube publishes several encodings for most uploads. The results list shows those encodings with height and size. Taller rows cost more megabytes. Free use refuses any single file over 150 MB, so a 1080p or 1440p row on a long video may sit behind the free gate.
Match quality to the screen that will play the file. A phone rarely needs the largest encoding. A classroom projector often does. The size printed on the row is the size that will occupy disk space after download.
An audio-only row appears for many videos because picture and sound are stored separately. Use it when you want a smaller offline listening file. It does not re-encode into MP3 on this page; you receive the audio format YouTube published.
How the online transfer behaves
After Analyze, click Download file on one row. Keep the tab open while the browser writes the file. Progress lives in the browser download list. Closing early produces a partial file.
The finished file is typically MP4 for combined video rows. It opens in ordinary players on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. Rename it in your file manager if the title is long or messy.
Prepared copies on the server expire on a short timer. Download soon after the row is ready. The lasting archive is the file on your device, not a permanent cloud locker on this site.
Free online use and Pro
Free use allows three completed downloads per day, resetting at midnight UTC. Ads may appear on free pages. The 150 MB per-file limit applies to each completed transfer.
Pro removes advertising, raises the daily allowance, and lifts the per-file size ceiling. Use Pro when you regularly save long lectures above 150 MB or need more than three files in a day.
Neither free nor Pro installs a YouTube client through this page. You still use YouTube’s site or app to find and play videos online; this page only helps when you need a local file from a public watch URL.
Rights and account-gated YouTube videos
Save your own uploads, Creative Commons material that allows offline copies, or videos a rights holder permitted you to archive. Commercial music videos and rented films remain owned by their publishers.
Members-only videos, purchased movies, and videos that refuse playback when signed out will not list public media here. That empty result is the access boundary, not a cue to retry forever.
Redistributing someone else’s YouTube upload on another site is a separate legal question from keeping a personal offline copy of material you are entitled to keep. Stay inside the terms you agreed to with YouTube and with the uploader.
Online download steps
Find the video on YouTube and confirm it plays while signed out if you are on free anonymous use. Copy the watch URL. Paste it here and run Analyze.
Read the sizes. Pick a row under your free limit or use Pro for larger files. Click Download file and wait for the browser to mark the transfer complete. Open the file offline to confirm it plays.
If Analyze returns nothing, check that you pasted a watch URL and that the video is public. Switch to another video or wait for a live archive if the stream is still running.
When online save is the wrong tool
If you need an entire channel mirrored nightly, this page is the wrong shape of product. It is built for individual public watch URLs.
If you need burned-in captions restyled into the picture, that is an editing job after download, not part of the transfer.
If YouTube already offers an official download button on the watch page for that upload, prefer the official control when it appears for content you own or licensed.
Online YouTube download questions
Do I have to install software to download online here?
No. Paste the watch URL in the browser, analyze, and use the normal browser download for the file.
Can I download while the video is still premiering or live?
Not until YouTube publishes a finished on-demand watch page for that stream or premiere.
Is the online file lower quality than a desktop app would get?
Quality comes from the encoding YouTube published for that row. The row you pick decides height and bitrate.
Does the video stay online only on Vidzilla’s servers?
No permanent stream locker. You download a file to your device. Server preparations expire.
Why did a 1080p row refuse on free use?
The printed size was over 150 MB. Choose a smaller row or use Pro to lift the free size ceiling.
Can I use a YouTube short link from the Share sheet?
Yes, when it points at that one video. Avoid sharing a channel or playlist index link by mistake.
