Native uploads versus external embeds
LinkedIn feed posts sometimes carry video uploaded into LinkedIn itself, and sometimes they only embed or link out to YouTube, Vimeo, or another host. The post URL always names the LinkedIn activity—but the bytes you want might live next door.
This guide helps you tell native uploads from external embeds before you paste into Vidzilla's LinkedIn video tool.
Misclassification is the main failure: people paste a LinkedIn activity that is only a YouTube preview, then wonder why LinkedIn-shaped results never appear.
Open the LinkedIn video downloader
Native LinkedIn video posts
A native upload plays inside LinkedIn's own player without sending you to another site. The share/post URL on linkedin.com identifies that activity. When the post is public enough for signed-out viewing, Analyze can attempt to list LinkedIn-hosted encodes.
Copy the post link from LinkedIn's share control on that update, not from your profile root.
Native uploads often carry LinkedIn-generated captions UI and reaction chrome. Those overlays are player chrome; burned-in logos in the video itself are content and will remain in any saved file.
External embeds and link posts
Creators often paste a YouTube URL into a LinkedIn update. The feed shows a preview, but the canonical watch file still belongs to YouTube (or Vimeo, etc.). In that case, open the external watch page and use that host's downloader.
Pasting only the LinkedIn activity URL may return nothing useful for the external file—or may not expose the third-party media the way you expect. Follow the embed to its home.
Link posts that open articles with an embedded player follow the same rule: chase the host that actually serves the media.
How to tell which kind you have
Watch the player chrome and the open-on affordances. A jump to youtube.com is a giveaway. A player that stays on linkedin.com with LinkedIn controls leans native.
When unsure, open the post in a desktop browser, use the preview's open-original control if present, and compare hosts in the address bar.
Mobile apps hide hosts more aggressively. If Share offers Open in YouTube, believe that signal and copy from YouTube after it opens.
Public versus network-only visibility
Many LinkedIn posts are visible only to logged-in members or to connections. Signed-out Analyze cannot join your network graph. If a private window redirects to login before play, stop.
Company-page videos sometimes differ from member posts in visibility—still apply the anonymous play test.
Posts marked Connections only or Group only are out of scope for a signed-out tool even when you can see them at work.
Articles, newsletters, and documents
LinkedIn articles and document carousels are not the same as native video posts. A PDF carousel will not yield an MP4 row. Choose tools that match the media class.
Live events may not expose a finished native VOD until afterward—wait for a replay post if that is what you need.
Newsletter editions that include video still need the specific post or external host URL for the clip—not the newsletter archive index.
Workflow once you classify the post
Native + publicly playable → paste LinkedIn post URL into the LinkedIn video downloader. External embed → paste the external watch URL into that host's tool. Verify files on disk either way.
Respect professionals' content rights. Personal offline keeps of permitted public posts are the intended pattern—not scraping private networking content.
Keep the tab open through Download file. Corporate lower-thirds and captions stay; there is no watermark-removal promise for brand burns.
- Native player on linkedin.com → LinkedIn tool
- Preview opens YouTube/Vimeo → host tool
- Login wall → out of scope
- Post link is not a profile link
Honest limits
Vidzilla will not bypass LinkedIn login, DRM, or download disables. Watermark removal is not offered for burned-in corporate lower-thirds.
Pro changes quotas and ads; it does not impersonate your LinkedIn session.
If a recruiter sent a private message attachment, that is not a public post URL. Use LinkedIn's own download affordances while signed in, within policy.
Company pages versus personal posts
Company page updates can host native video with different share URLs than personal profiles. Still copy the specific update link, not the company about page.
Employee advocacy resharing can wrap the same native video in multiple activity URLs. Open the post that actually plays the native file you want, then copy that activity.
When a company post only embeds a Vimeo password video, you inherit Vimeo's gate—LinkedIn will not unlock it for Analyze.
Frequently asked questions
The LinkedIn post only embeds YouTube—what should I paste?
Copy the YouTube watch URL and use a YouTube downloader. The LinkedIn activity is just a wrapper around someone else's host.
How do I copy a native video post link?
Use Share on that update to copy the linkedin.com post/activity URL while the native player is the source of the media.
Why does Analyze fail on a post I can see while logged in?
Network-only visibility. A signed-out private window is the triage test; if login is required to play, Analyze stays empty.
Can I paste my profile URL to get all videos?
No. Profiles are indexes. Open each public post you need and classify native versus embed first.
Will Vidzilla remove a company logo watermark on the video?
No. Burned-in branding stays with the pixels. Downloaders save the encode; they do not erase art.
Where do I download a public native LinkedIn video?
Paste into Vidzilla's LinkedIn video downloader, Analyze, pick a row, keep the tab open, and confirm the file on disk.
