A deviation page carries an artist's own upload
Everything on this site is posted by the person who made it, which is the fact that shapes this page. A deviation is one submission on its own address: a drawing, a photograph, a piece of pixel art, an animation, and on some accounts a short film or an animated sequence published as video.
Analyze reads that page the way a browser does and reports the media files it is serving. An illustration comes back as an image file with its dimensions and its size in megabytes. An animated submission comes back as a video row. The type of row you receive is decided by what the artist uploaded.
Artists decide whether the full-size file leaves the page
The account holder controls the download setting on each submission. When they switch it off, the page shows a display copy sized for the browser and holds the original back. What Analyze finds in that case is the copy the page is serving, and that copy is smaller than the file the artist keeps.
There is no setting on this page that reaches past that choice. Asking the artist is the route to the full-resolution file, and many of them hand it over when the request is polite and the use is explained.
Mature-gated submissions need a viewer who is signed in
Work marked as mature sits behind a gate that asks for an account before the media loads. Our servers hold no account on that site, so the gate is what gets read and no files come back. You can be signed in yourself, see the artwork clearly on your own screen, and still get an empty results list here.
The same empty answer follows a submission the artist has deleted, a submission moved to a subscriber-only tier, and an account that has been closed. In each case nothing is being withheld by this page. The media was never served to the request.
Gallery, favourites, and profile addresses hold nothing single
The address you paste has to be one submission. Click the piece so it opens on its own, with the artist's description underneath it, and copy the address from your browser bar. A usable one ends with the title and identifier of that single deviation.
A gallery, a favourites collection, a group page, a tag listing, and the browse feed each cover many pieces at once. There is no one file behind any of them, so they come back empty. Work through the pieces you want one address at a time.
The licence written on the piece decides what you may do
Artists on this site publish under terms they choose, and many state those terms in the description beneath the work. Some allow a personal copy and nothing else. Some permit reuse with a credit. Some permit no copying at all. Read what the artist wrote before you do anything with the file.
Keeping a reference copy on your own machine is different from posting the piece elsewhere, printing it, training on it, or selling anything made from it. Vidzilla is an independent site with no relationship to DeviantArt and no authority to grant permission on any artist's behalf.
Sizes, free use, and where the file lands
Illustrations are small, and even a large canvas normally arrives in single-digit megabytes. Animation and video submissions run larger, and a long animated piece at the tallest row passes the 150 MB ceiling that applies to free downloads.
Free use also covers three downloads a day, which matters when you are collecting reference from several artists. Pro removes the daily limit and the size ceiling and the advertising. A prepared file expires on a short timer, so keep the tab open until the transfer finishes and the copy is on your own device.
Questions about deviations
The artist turned downloads off. Can this page still get the original?
No. When the download setting is off, the page serves a display-sized copy and holds the original back, and that copy is what the results list offers.
I am signed in and can see a mature submission, so why is the list empty?
Our servers request the page with no account behind them, so the age gate loads instead of the artwork. Your own session does not travel with the address you paste.
Can I paste an artist's gallery address and take everything at once?
No. A gallery lists many submissions and has no single file behind it. Open each piece on its own page and analyze those addresses separately.
Does this work on animated and video submissions?
Yes. An animated or video submission comes back as a video row with a resolution and a size, in the same list an image submission would produce.
Am I allowed to repost art I saved here?
That depends on the terms the artist wrote under the piece. A saved copy for personal reference is not the same as permission to publish, print, or sell the work.
Why did a piece that worked last week return nothing today?
The artist deleted it, made it subscriber-only, or closed the account. Once the page stops serving the media, no address reaches the file any more.
