Download Tumblr video from a post permalink

Tumblr moves clips through posts and reblogs. This page needs the permalink that actually hosts the video, then turns that address into a file on your device.

Dashboard scroll versus a single post permalink

The Tumblr dashboard is a continuous feed. It mixes original posts, reblogs, ads, and text notes. A download needs one address that names a single post with video. Open that post until the browser address bar shows a permalink for that item, then copy that full URL.

A dashboard URL, a tag search, or a blog home page points at many posts at once. Analyze cannot invent which clip you meant. If you paste a feed-style address, the list comes back empty or points at the wrong item. Switch to the post view first.

On mobile Tumblr apps, use Share or Copy link on the post that plays the video. Confirm the copied text includes the blog name and the post id path. Short preview links from chats sometimes drop the post id; open the post in a browser tab and copy again if Analyze finds nothing.

  • Use a post permalink, not the dashboard or a tag page.
  • Confirm the post still plays the video while you are viewing it publicly.
  • Paste the complete https address before you press Analyze.

Reblogs and which address actually holds the file

Tumblr reblogs carry conversation notes while the media often still lives on the original post. When you reblog a video, your reblog page may show the same player, but some reblog URLs resolve poorly for extractors. Prefer the original post permalink when both are available.

If you only have a reblog link, open it and check whether the video still plays. If it does, try that address first. If Analyze fails, follow the link back to the source post and paste that permalink instead.

Text-only reblogs that quote a video without embedding it will not expose a media file. Scroll until you see the player on that post. No player means there is nothing for this tool to list.

Public posts, NSFW gates, and private blogs

Public posts that play in a normal browser session without a login wall are the ones this page can read. Private blogs, passworded posts, and content behind an NSFW confirm that your session never completed will not hand Analyze a downloadable file.

If Tumblr asks you to confirm age or log in before the player appears, finish that step in the same browser, then copy the permalink again. A URL copied while the page still showed a gate often fails.

Deleted posts and blogs that moved names leave dead permalinks. Open the address yourself. If Tumblr shows a missing page, there is no file to prepare here.

Analyze, pick a row, then Download file

Paste the Tumblr permalink into the box and press Analyze. The tool lists the encodings Tumblr or its CDN already published for that post. Each row shows a format and a size so you can choose before the transfer starts.

Press Download file on the row you want. Wait until the browser finishes writing to your downloads folder. Closing the tab early can leave a partial file.

Prepared files on the worker side expire on a short timer. The lasting copy is the one your browser saved. Move keepers into a folder you control so temporary cleanup tools do not remove them.

Free limits for Tumblr downloads

No account and no email are required to run a Tumblr download here. Free use covers three downloads a day and 150 MB per file. Many Tumblr clips sit under that ceiling; very long or high-bitrate posts may not.

Pro raises the daily count, raises the size ceiling, and removes advertising. Neither tier turns this page into a Tumblr account manager or a bulk reblog archive. You still paste one public post address at a time.

If a row shows a size over 150 MB on free use, pick a smaller encoding when one exists, or upgrade for that file. The tool does not silently cut quality to fit the free cap.

Permission and everyday reuse

Someone filmed or edited the clip you are saving. Keeping a personal offline copy is different from republishing it as your own work. Credit and permission still belong to the creator when you reuse the file in public projects.

Name the downloaded file after the topic or date, not after a random Tumblr path string. Clear names make an archive usable months later when the original post is gone.

When a blog deletes the post, your local file remains. That is the practical reason people archive Tumblr video instead of relying on a live permalink forever.

When Analyze returns nothing

Empty results almost always mean the wrong URL type, a private or gated post, or a deleted item. Open the permalink in a fresh browser tab and confirm the video still plays without a login wall.

Swap a reblog URL for the original post permalink when both exist. Remove tracking query junk only if the shortened form still opens the same post; do not invent a new path.

If the post plays for you but Analyze still fails, try again later or use a different public network. Do not paste a screenshot or a blog avatar URL expecting a video file.

Questions about Tumblr video downloads

Can I paste my Tumblr dashboard URL?

No. Open one post that contains the video and copy that post permalink. Dashboard and tag pages do not map to a single file.

Should I use a reblog link or the original post?

Prefer the original post permalink when you can find it. A reblog that still plays may work; if Analyze fails, follow the source post and paste that address.

Do I need a Vidzilla account?

No. Free use allows three downloads per day and 150 MB per file with no account. Pro is optional for higher limits and no ads.

Why did Analyze find nothing on a NSFW post?

If Tumblr still shows a gate or requires login before the player, the session has not exposed the media. Confirm the post plays publicly, then paste the permalink again.

How long do prepared files last?

Prepared files expire on a short timer on the worker side. Save with Download file and keep the copy in your downloads folder.

Does this download every video on a blog?

No. Paste one post permalink at a time. Blog home pages and tag listings are not batch archives.
