What a SproutVideo link usually is
SproutVideo is a hosted video platform. Organizations upload recordings, then send students or clients a watch page or a share address. The visitor plays the video inside that page rather than receiving an attachment in email.
When you need an offline copy of a recording you are allowed to keep, the starting point is that watch or share address. Paste it into Vidzilla. Analyze lists the media files the page publishes for a public visitor.
This is not a replacement for the host’s own download button when the account owner enabled one. It is a path for public pages that play media in the browser and expose a fetchable file.
Training teams use offline copies for travel days, weak hotel Wi-Fi, and review notes. The useful input is still a clean address that opens the player without a private session.
Public share links versus login walls
A public share link opens the player without asking you for a password. Those addresses are the ones Analyze can read. Copy the full address from the browser bar while the player is visible.
A login wall, SSO gate, or invite-only page shows a sign-in form to anyone outside the organization. Vidzilla does not hold your SproutVideo credentials. Analyze sees the gate and returns an empty list. That empty list is the correct description of a public fetch.
If your email contains a button that opens the video only after you sign in, finish sign-in in your browser, confirm whether a public share exists, and only paste an address that plays without your session when the rights allow offline copies.
Password prompts that appear after the page loads are still access controls. If the public fetch never reaches the media file, Analyze will not return rows.
Expiring links and course modules
Some share links expire on a date set by the uploader. Yesterday’s working address can return nothing today. Open the link in your own browser first. If the player is gone, there is no file for Analyze to list.
Course modules often embed SproutVideo inside a learning platform. The address in the LMS may point at the platform shell rather than at the video page. Press play, look for an option that opens the video on its own page, and copy that address when it exists.
Embedded players inside slide decks follow the same pattern: get a direct watch address before you paste here. A deck file is not a video address.
If the organization rotates share links after each cohort, save the file while your cohort link still works rather than assuming the same string will work next semester.
Reading rows and finishing the download
After Analyze, each row shows format, height, and size. Pick a combined picture-and-sound row for offline viewing. Match height to the screen you will use, and read the megabyte figure against free space and the free 150 MB ceiling.
Press Download file and leave the tab open until the browser finishes. Prepared files expire on a short timer on our side; the durable copy is the one on your disk.
Rename the file with the session title and date. Hosted platforms often use opaque filenames that are hard to search later in a folder of training videos.
If sound is missing after you open the file, you may have chosen a video-only row. Run Analyze again and choose a combined row when one is listed.
- Confirm the title matches the recording you meant.
- Prefer combined rows over separate streams for simple playback.
- Keep Wi-Fi stable for large training videos.
Free daily downloads and Pro
Free use allows three downloads per day with a 150 MB ceiling per file. Long training recordings at full height often exceed 150 MB. Choose a smaller row or use Pro, which removes the daily count, the size ceiling, and ads.
The free count resets at midnight UTC. If you are archiving several lectures in one day, plan which three matter on free use, or use Pro for the batch.
Only download recordings you are licensed to keep. Organizational terms may forbid offline copies even when the player is public. The file on your disk does not rewrite those terms.
Advertising appears on free tool pages. Pro removes that advertising along with the download limits when offline archives are part of your weekly work.
When another tool fits better
If the video arrived as a WeTransfer package rather than a SproutVideo page, use the WeTransfer downloader page. If you already hold a direct MP4 address, use download MP4 from URL.
For general public pages on other hosts, use the main video downloader. This page’s copy focuses on SproutVideo share and watch addresses.
After the file lands, save-video-to-computer explains where browsers put finished files and how to rename them for an archive folder.
Screen recording the player is a last resort for pages that never expose a public file. Prefer a real download when the rights and the public page allow it, because screen captures lose quality and usually omit clean audio sync.
Questions about SproutVideo downloads
Why is the results list empty when I can watch after signing in?
Vidzilla does not use your login. If the public page is only a sign-in wall, Analyze correctly returns nothing.
The share link worked last week and fails now. What changed?
Many share links expire. Open the link in your browser. If the player is gone, there is no media left to list.
Can I paste the learning-platform module URL?
Only if that URL is itself a public video page. Often you must open the video on its own watch address first.
How do free limits apply to long lectures?
Three downloads per day, 150 MB per file on free use. Larger rows need a smaller encoding or Pro.
Do I need an account on Vidzilla?
No account is required for ordinary public pages. Stay on the tab until the file finishes downloading.
Where does the file go?
Into your browser’s download location, usually the Downloads folder on a computer.
