A video inside a reply has an address of its own

A reply is a full post. It has its own numeric identifier, its own author, and its own address, even though it appears underneath something else on screen. If the video you want was posted as a reply, the address of the original post will not produce it.

Open the reply on its own. On a computer, click the reply's timestamp, which takes you to a page holding that post at the top. On a phone, tap the reply once. The address bar then shows the author of the reply and the identifier of the reply, and that is the address to copy.

Threads where several posts each carry video

Authors publish long threads where post two, post five, and post nine all hold separate clips. On screen they run together in one column, which makes it easy to copy the wrong one.

Handle a thread one post at a time.

  • Decide which post in the thread holds the clip you want.
  • Open that post alone by clicking its timestamp.
  • Copy the address, then check that the number at the end changed from the previous post.
  • Paste, analyze, download, and only then go back for the next post.

A quote post and the post it quotes

A quote post wraps somebody else's post inside a new one and adds a comment. Two videos can be involved: one attached to the outer post and one inside the quoted card.

Copying the address of the outer post gets you whatever that author attached. To take the clip from the card underneath, click the card itself, which opens the quoted post on its own page with a different author and a different number, then copy that address. When the outer post carries no video of its own, the card is always the post you want.

Confirming you copied the post you meant

The end of the address is a long number that identifies one post and nothing else. Two posts from the same author differ only in that number, so it is the part worth reading.

Before you press Analyze, check three things in the address you pasted. The name in it matches the author of the post with the video. There is a number on the end rather than nothing. That number differs from the last one you downloaded. This check takes a couple of seconds and prevents the common outcome of saving the same clip twice.

What comes back for a reply video

Analyze returns the files the post is serving, each row with a resolution and a size. Clips attached to posts are usually short and recorded for a phone screen, so they arrive at a few megabytes rather than hundreds.

Free use covers 3 downloads a day and one file up to 150 MB, which these files sit well under. Pro lifts the daily count, lifts the size ceiling, and clears the advertising away. Press Download file, leave the tab open until it finishes, and the copy stays on your own device. The prepared file expires on a short timer, so do not queue it up and walk away.

Replies that come back empty

Some replies cannot be read at all, and the reason is on the source side. A protected account serves nothing to a signed-out visitor, and every page here is read signed out. A reply the author deleted takes its video with it. A conversation the original author limited to certain people is closed to everyone else.

A reply that has been hidden by the author of the thread is a different case: the post still exists at its own address, so open it directly instead of looking for it in the conversation.

Permission travels with the author of that post

In a thread the video may belong to somebody other than the person who started the conversation. Whoever posted the clip is the one whose permission matters. Save your own material freely, and treat anyone else's as theirs to control. Vidzilla has no relationship with the platform and grants nothing on anybody's behalf.

Questions about replies, threads and quotes

I pasted the first post of a thread and got the wrong clip. Why?

The address of the opening post stands for that post alone. Open the reply that actually carries the video you want and copy its own address instead.

How do I open a single reply on its own page?

Click or tap the timestamp on that reply. The conversation reloads with that post at the top, and the address bar then shows its author and identifier.

A quote post shows two videos. Which address gives me which?

The outer address gives the clip attached by the quoting author. Click the quoted card to open the original post, then copy that address for the clip inside it.

Can I download every video in a long thread at once?

No. Each post is analyzed on its own, so work down the thread one address at a time and save each clip before moving to the next.

The reply I want was hidden by the thread author. Is it gone?

Hiding removes it from the visible conversation but the post still exists at its own address. Open that address directly and analyze it as normal.

Two addresses I copied look identical. How can I tell them apart?

Compare the long number at the end of each one. That number identifies a single post, and two different posts never share it.
